UAE: How to dispute traffic fines online in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and other emirates
Know the deadline and required documents before lodging your objection

DUBAI: Have you received a fine you believe is unjust? Whether it’s for speeding, a lane infraction, or mobile use while driving, residents across the UAE can challenge traffic penalties online without needing to visit a police station – provided they have solid evidence.
The UAE’s traffic departments offer emirate-specific digital channels that make lodging an objection straightforward.
Each emirate follows a strict verification process, and time limits apply. Here’s how to challenge a traffic fine online – emirate by emirate.
Dubai
Motorists in Dubai must use the Dubai Public Prosecution portal to dispute fines. The process is open to residents and visitors alike, but only if the violation was issued by the Dubai Police General Command and captured by authorised traffic controllers.
Documents required:
- Emirates ID (or passport for visitors)
- Vehicle registration card
- Driving licence
- Traffic fine number and violation details
- Supporting evidence such as dashcam footage or photos
- Arabic-language explanation (English submissions are automatically rejected)
Steps:
- Visit www.dxbpp.gov.ae
- Select ‘Request to Object a Traffic Fine’
- Input personal, vehicle, and contact details
- Describe the violation clearly – in Arabic
- Attach all supporting documents
Confirm that the fine hasn’t been contested elsewhere and remains unpaid
The Traffic Prosecution typically reviews your case within 10 working days. If accepted, the case may proceed to Traffic Court, where you can present evidence.
Abu Dhabi
To challenge a traffic fine in Abu Dhabi, complaints must be filed via the Abu Dhabi Police e-complaints portal through TAMM.
Steps to submit a grievance:
- Visit the TAMM website and search for ‘Request a Grievance for Transport Violations’
- Enter personal details: name, contact, Emirates ID, gender
- Add vehicle info: plate number, source, and category
- Include violation number and reason for dispute
- Upload supporting images or video, if any
- Choose a callback time and submit the request
The grievance must be filed within 60 days of the violation date. If successful, the fine will be reversed without needing a court appearance.
Sharjah
Sharjah motorists can challenge fines via Sharjah Police’s WhatsApp service (+971-6-517-7555) or the Ministry of Interior (MOI) app.
MOI app process:
- Log in using UAE Pass
- Select ‘Help’ > ‘Complain’
- Enter details of the violation and the objection reason
- Submit with any supporting documents
If the claim is validated, Sharjah Police will reverse the fine.
Ajman
Disputes in Ajman are handled through the Ajman Police app or website.
- To file via the app:
- Sign in using UAE Pass
- Tap ‘Traffic Services’ > ‘Objection on Traffic Penalty’
- Fill in fine details and violation number
- Attach supporting images or evidence
- Submit the objection
Ajman Police evaluates the appeal and notifies the applicant. If approved, the fine is annulled.
Northern Emirates
Motorists in Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, and Umm Al Quwain can submit objections through the MOI app.
Procedure:
- Log into the MOI app using UAE Pass
- Select ‘Help’ > ‘Complain’
- Provide fine number and reason for appeal
- Upload proof of the error
Authorities assess the complaint and evidence, and may revoke the fine if justified.
Disputing through public prosecution
If your dispute is rejected by police channels, you may request a review by the Traffic Prosecution Department. This requires official permission and may result in the matter being forwarded to Traffic Court, where a judge will issue a final verdict.
Things to remember
- Language requirement: The complaint must be in Arabic. Consider hiring a certified translator or lawyer for accuracy.
- Timelines: Abu Dhabi mandates filing within 60 days. Other emirates may have similar timeframes.
- Evidence matters: High-quality footage, GPS data, and time-stamped photos improve your case.
- Repeat appeals: Once a dispute has been submitted through a formal channel, it cannot be contested again for the same violation.
- Pending fines: Do not pay the fine before submitting an objection. Paid fines are considered accepted and cannot be appealed.
Penalties for unpaid fines
In Dubai, failure to pay fines can lead to non-renewal of vehicle registration or vehicle impoundment. The RTA offers a zero-interest instalment plan over 3, 6, 9, or 12 months for those facing financial difficulty.
Fine discounts
Abu Dhabi and Sharjah offer discounts:
- 35 percent if paid within 60 days
- 25 percent if paid between 60 days and 1 year
Other emirates may announce temporary fine reduction campaigns, especially during national occasions.
